So there’s this really cool event that takes place each year. It’s called the Billboard Women in Music event. Nope, I’ve never been invited, but I heard that this year’s was epic! The reason?? The main award, titled simply, ‘Woman of the Year,’ went to none other than Selena Gomez. Yes, ladies; Selena is BACK!! And she is doing better than ever! She’s had an insane year on all fronts and this award meant to honor, “women in the music industry who have made significant contributions to the business and who, through their work and continued success, inspire generations of women to take on increasing responsibilities within the field,” could not have gone to a more appropriate individual. Let’s do a quick 2017 rewind. Shall we? Selena released (really good!) new music, executive produced a hit Netflix series, (which btw you should watch!), managed to keep her crown as Queen of Instagram for the second year running… Oh! And then there was a kidney transplant this summer which was made necessary due to her struggles with Lupus! Selena who, you want to know?? That’s right; this girl is everything and then some! Woman of the Year, indeed.
What I’m really here to discuss, though, is the outfit. Yes, THE outfit. Selena doesn’t play when it comes to these high profile events; she slays. Time and time again. For starters, this was an all-black look, and an all-Versace look. In fact every piece of her ensemble came from the Spring 2018 collection. To break it down for all you fashion obsessed ladies out there, let’s take it from the top. Selena rocked a super feminine, strapless bustier with scalloped detailing. She paired it with laser cut leather pants which kept things interesting. To bring the top and bottom together cohesively she added a chunky gold belt, and in keeping with the black and gold theme she chose a pair of strappy Versace sandals with gold coin detailing. Versace, Versace, Versace!!!
It’s not just about the clothing, though. Sure, that’s what everyone talks about when all is said and done, but without the right hair, makeup and jewelry, an ensemble can go from hero to zero in a flash. Selena always does it right, though! First of all, those blonde locks. Are we not stoked that they’re here to stay?? To offset her fierce look she swept her hair back in a loose and textured chignon. And in similar fashion, her makeup didn’t overtake the whole look. She boasted a defined eye, yet not too smoky, and the perfect nude lip. Finally, she complemented her entire look with subtle gold jewelry by EF Collection. The whole shebang was diamond hoops and a single ring. The end.
For my lovely nurse friends out there, there is a look for you too. No, no one will let you walk into work with a bustier ala Selena’s. But they will let you walk in with the Grey’s Anatomy Signature Notched Neck Top. It boasts delicate detailing at the neckline just like Selena’s scalloped top, a seamed front and fitted back to give you that perfect, feminine fit, and it’s totally functional to boot! Take that, Selena;) Pair with your favorite, black scrub pants, and you’ll be looking sharp as a whip. Plus, keep your hair casual, your makeup simple, and your jewels barely there, for a full on Selena replication. Hey, you never know who may be 2018’s Woman of the Year!!
